  • Grocery Store Maps - Chicago Area

The Data Surveillance Working Group is pleased to announce the availability of a series of maps denoting the distribution of supermarket type grocery store locations in the Chicago area.

The maps also include information on the distribution of stores by type for sub-regions (e.g. for Chicago: North, South and West sides; for surbuban Cook County: North, South and Western suburbs).   The maps may be useful to local organizations for assessing food access issues, planning food access interventions or conducting local needs assessments.  The grocery store data were provided by the Northeastern Illinois Community Food Security Assessment, a project of the Chicago State University Neighborhood Assistance Center, funded by the Searle Funds at the Chicago Community Trust.  Maps were developed by Kristin Bowen, GIS Intern with the Child Health Data Lab of the Children's Memorial Research Center.  For questions regarding the maps, please contact Daniel Block, PhD at dblock@csu.edu. or Maryann Mason, PhD at mmason@childrensmemorial.org.
